To keep the pain from arthritis in my hands to a minimum and my finger/wrist joints aligned and safe, I pat out excess water from washcloths–not ring out–then hang to dry! This quick & easy trick, in the longterm, preserves the integrity of my joints and prevents damage from the friction of twisting. As the proverb says, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
Here’s how I do it:
Step 1: I create a clean space for my daily hygiene routine.
Step 2: There are a variety of ways I rid excess water from washcloths.
Method 1: To rid excess water from washcloth, I use the base of my open hand to press washcloth onto base of basin.
Method 2: To rid excess water from washcloth, I gently press it between open hands.
Step 3: I hang washcloth to air dry.
I follow the motto, Protect, Preserve, & Prevent. As such, I take the extra time and additional steps to protect and preserve my joints by preventing the avoidable damage of twisting, friction, and tension. So, I feel better, I have less inflammation, and I can do more for myself throughout the day. Likewise, I also gain “know-how,” a knack for, and mastery of my hygiene skills.
