“The Body Is A Temple.” -Scripture
To me, my body is a temple I should praise. One way I celebrate my body is to “shield it” from use and abuse with Joint Protection.
But, what is joint protection? To me, joint protection is a way of performing an activity where my body is safeguarded, over the long haul, from wear & tear.
My 3-Principles or 3-P’s of joint protection are to: Protect-Preserve-Prevent! In other words, protect your joints, preserve your joints, and prevent your joints from the potential harm of malalignment, impact, weakness, or overuse. Some key elements of joint protection include proper joint alignment, low-impact movements, strong muscles, a balance between rest & activity, and of course a little tender-loving-care (TLC)!
To illustrate joint protection, I use a wheelbarrow to work in the garden which helps protect my back and joints. The use of a wheelbarrow not only promotes muscle and joint alignment, but it also makes gardening simpler. A double header! So, instead of carrying heavy garden supplies around the yard by hand, I use a wheelbarrow to ease the load while protecting my back, hip, and knee joints.
So, the pearl-of-wisdom to remember for joint protection is my motto, “Protect-Preserve-Prevent©.”
